Episode 10
Car trouble is simply a part of life, for those of us who drive at least, but not all car trouble is created equally and sometimes it’s not what you think.
In this episode, Jeff and Matt each share a story where a bit of car trouble made things interesting.
You Done That
Back in the early 2000s I worked out at a gym. This gym wasn’t really different than any other gym, except for this one day, when this peculiar lady pulled me aside to discuss what seemed like a very important matter!
I knew this lady. I’d spoken with her in the past, a few times. She was always very nice, if not a bit “flighty” for lack of a better word. On this particular day however, she seemed annoyed and concerned.
As she began to share her story, her concern seemed to make sense as she told me about someone spray painting an expletive on the rear windshield of her car the previous night. My heart went out to her because, let’s be honest, that kind of thing just stinks!
The conversation however, took a really weird turn. I asked her who could have done this to her. She exclaimed, “It was my boyfriend!” I stood still for a moment, with my head cocked to the side, confused, bewildered. “Why would her boyfriend have spray painted her car!?”, I thought to myself.
I stood still for a moment, with my head cocked to the side, confused, bewildered. “Why would her boyfriend have spray painted her car!?”, I thought to myself.
The story didn’t end there, however. She began providing details. She said her boyfriend was at her house, he didn’t like something that was said, so he left. Then, hours later she went out to her car and saw that something nasty had been spray painted on her car. She said, “I called him and I said ‘You Done That… You Done That… YOU… Done That!'” Baffled, I asked her if she really thought her boyfriend could have done that, but she had entered The Twilight Zone as she stared beyond my shoulder, at a wall in the distance, repeating the same thing over and over, for what seemed like ten minutes:
You Done That!
You Done That!
You Done That!
I was fighting back laughter at that point, but I still wanted to understand why she thought he had done it, but she continued:
You Done That!
You Done That!
You Done That!
Eventually, she broke out of the seeming infinite loop she was trapped in and said she wasn’t sure if she was going to see this guy (her boyfriend) anymore. I told her I was sorry about her car and I walked away. This was one of the strangest conversations I’d ever been a part of in my life.
You Done That!
She was a nice lady. I saw her at the gym for a few more years before I moved on from that place. I never heard about the story again or saw her boyfriend.
